Rajshri Productions to release new film on 5 October
Film production and distribution house Rajshri Productions has announced that its new film Dono will be released in cinemas on 5 October. Co-produced by Jio Studios, the film will be directed by Sooraj Barjatya’s son Avnish and stars Sunny Deol’s son Rajveer and actor Poonam Dhillon’s daughter Paloma.
Jio Studios, a unit of Reliance Industries Ltd, may invest as much as ₹3,000 crore to boost Jio Cinema's subscription and advertising revenues, according to the estimates of film trade experts.
Earlier this year, Jio Studios announced a plan to create a repertoire of 100 movies and web originals to bolster the streaming platform's standing and retain customer engagement after the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
The company started work on several movie projects in the pre-pandemic days and is now likely to directly stream a few on its OTT platform, and some others may be released in theatres. Mumbai-based Rajshri Productions, established in 1947, is known for several successful and critically acclaimed movies between the 1960s and 1980s such as Dosti (1964), Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se (1978), Nadiya Ke Paar (1982), Saaransh (1984), Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) and Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999). Recent projects include Piya Albela, a TV serial on Zee TV, created by Sooraj Barjatya.
At the end of the 1980s, when the film industry experienced a slump due to the advent of home video, Rajshri brought out the musical teenage romance, Maine Pyar Kiya, directed in-house by Sooraj Barjatya.
Barjatya built on the success of Maine Pyar Kiya with other blockbusters like Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Hum Saath Saath Hain. The former remains one of the highest-grossing releases in the history of Indian cinema and won the National Award for the most popular film providing wholesome entertainment. His last directorial venture Uunchai starring Amitabh Bachchan, was released in November.

Trai releases consultation paper on 5G enterprise tech adoption
New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Friday released a consultation paper seeking industry feedback on policy bottlenecks towards faster adoption of 5G-driven technologies for businesses. Written inputs can be sent in till 30 October, with counter-comments sought on 13 November.
The paper seeks to boost adoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence, extended reality and the internet of things (IoT), which will be key factors that enable automation across enterprises.
The paper, seen by Mint, said that adoption of new technologies among enterprises “will require effective ecosystem collaboration between telecom service providers, original equipment manufacturers, infrastructure providers and the government to increase consumer adoption and market readiness—to unlock large-scale benefits of 5G."
It also identified the need to upgrade infrastructure to meet the standards of 5G connectivity, “fiberization" of networks to deploy 5G among enterprises, and densifying networks in order to help enterprises adopt new technologies.
Adoption of 5G via captive networks for enterprises hit a roadblock in India as telcos and large enterprises clashed over access to 5G spectrum. While companies pushed for direct allocation of 5G spectrum from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), citing greater flexibility of deployment and privacy, telecom operators lobbied against the move by stating that such allocation and deployments would be expensive, inefficient and eventually lead to operational burdens.
On 26 May, the DoT rolled out a decision in favour of telcos, deciding against allocating direct 5G spectrum to enterprises.
Telcos, however, appears to have been unsuccessful in lobbying for preferential pricing of spectrum allocation for over-the-top (OTT) streaming and communication services. While the likes of Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone-Idea wrote to Trai underlining “disproportionate" infrastructure cost incurred by telcos due to heavy data usage by services such as Netflix and WhatsApp, government officials have so far maintained that no preferential pricing of 5G network is being considered right now—in order to maintain net neutrality.
Deployment of 5G infrastructure across enterprises in India also saw a gradual slowdown among India's large-cap information technology (IT) service providers amid an overall weakening in global tech spending among enterprises. T
he slowdown in 5G spending was largely prevalent in North America, due to macroeconomic concerns and a weak overall forecast on spending viability for the rest of the year.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool Set To Face Off Against Title Contenders Spurs Published 24 minutes ago
Liverpool's Premier League title credentials face a stiff test at a resurgent Tottenham on Saturday as the Reds aim to keep pace with relentless leaders Manchester City.
Defending champions City have taken maximum points from their opening six games and can set a new club record should they extend that streak to seven at struggling Wolves.
Liverpool lead the chasing pack, two points back, with Brighton, Tottenham, Arsenal and Aston Villa all within six points of the top.
READ: La Liga: Atletico Madrid Take Down Osasuna 2-0 To Move Up To Fifth In The League
But, a major point of difference for the Reds this season has been their newly-acquired midfielder Dominik Szoboslai.
After years of going toe-to-toe with City for major honours, Liverpool slumped to fifth last season, prompting a full midfield rebuild during the transfer window.
The investment has paid immediate dividends, with seven consecutive wins in all competitions.
Dominik Szoboszlai has been the pick of four new midfielders and scored a sensational goal in Wednesday's 3-1 League Cup victory over Leicester.
“Since the first minute of training, it was pretty impressive,” said Jurgen Klopp of the Hungarian's adaptation after a £60 million ($73 million) move from RB Leipzig.
“A very naturally confident boy. That helps and a super-hard worker and that's what you see.”
But Klopp's men will need to inflict Tottenham's first league defeat under Ange Postecoglou to keep that fine run going.
The Australian has shrugged off the loss of Harry Kane to transform the mood at the north London giants.
Spurs are just two points behind Liverpool and claimed an impressive 2-2 draw away to Arsenal last weekend.

Ranbir Kapoor Seeks Toxic Father's Validation in Intense Sandeep Reddy Vanga Film Updated 14 minutes ago
Animal Teaser: The Animal teaser is finally out and it promises an intense experience in the cinemas. The teaser was released on the occasion of Ranbir Kapoor's birthday. The actor headlines the film, marking his first collaboration with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol. Animal marks Ranbir's second release of the year, after Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, and Sandeep's second Bollywood film after Kabir Singh.
An intense Ranbir Kapoor leads the show, playing a man who is emotionally and physically abused by his father but doesn't hold it against it. Instead, he defends him and even seeks for his validation. The teaser goes on to show that Ranbir's character grows up to become a gangster and he is facing ‘Lord' Bobby Deol (as mentioned on the film's Wikipedia page).
Watch the Animal teaser below:
Animal is set to release on December 1. The film was originally slated to release in August. It was set to clash with Sunny Deol's Gadar 2, Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 and Rajinikanth's Jailer. However, the director chose to delay the film to December because the post production of the film was incomplete.
“Why we are not able to release the film on August 11? The only reason is the quality. It might sound like a generic answer, generic reply but the fact is only quality… For example, there are seven songs in the film, when seven songs multiply into five languages it becomes 35 songs. 35 songs, different set of lyricists, different set of singers, it's going to take a little more time than what I actually planned for," Sandeep Reddy Vanga said in a video announcing the delay.
“I have lately realised or else I wouldn't have released the pre-teaser. Thank you so much for the pre-teaser response. A few of them said it will not be in the film but it will be there in the film, it is a cut out of the film episode," he added. The Animal pre-teaser was released in July, giving a glimpse at an intense Ranbir Kapoor beating up goons. He was seen covered in blood, hinting that fans will see him in a never-before-seen avatar.

Way Before Raveena Tandon And Katrina Kaif
Whenever we think of rain dance in Bollywood, the first thought that comes to mind is Raveena Tandon for her fiery performance in Tip Tip Barsa Pani song, opposite Akshay Kumar from the movie Mohra. She set the bar high for Bollywood with her dance. Such is its craze, that in 2021, Katrina Kaif starred in the remix of the song, opposite Akshay Kumar which is a part of the movie titled Sooryavanshi. It was in the 70s that this actress first did a rain dance and set an example with her moves and grooves.
In 1974, the movie Roti Kapda Aur Makaan hit the theatres. It was directed by Manoj Kumar who also acted in the movie along with Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor, Zeenat Aman, Moushumi Chatterjee and many more. The plot of the movie revolves around a man named Bharat who, after his father's death, is unable to afford basic needs like food, clothing and home.
In the movie, Zeenat Aman featured in a rain dance titled Haye Haye Yeh Majboori opposite Manoj Kumar. The performance went on to become a hit among the people. It was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and written by Verma Malik. The music was given by the famous musician duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
In the song, Zeenat Aman is seen wearing a printed saree with yellow and orange colours, paired with an orange blouse. She dances in the rain and the song is about love and yearning for her lover, Manoj Kumar. Her dance moves left the audience enthralled and won their hearts. The song and the dance were a huge hit at that time. Such is the craze that last year, Uorfi Javed too grooved to this sensuous song.
Roti, Kapda Aur Makaan hit the theatres on October 18, 1974, and earned Rs 5.25 crore. The movie was a major commercial success and was the highest-grossing Indian film of that year. It received three Filmfare awards and was nominated for 11 others.

Intel’s Big Chip-Making Push in Germany Hits Bottleneck
MAGDEBURG, Germany—Intel says it needs 3,000 people to staff the semiconductor factory it plans to build in eastern Germany by the end of the decade. This year, the local apprentice program for chip-making technicians is training two.
The German government trumpeted Intel's planned development as a game changer, backed by federal subsidies totaling 10 billion euros—equivalent to $10.59 billion—that would help the economy pivot toward new industry. The outlay is part of a European Union effort unveiled this summer to double the Continent's share of global chip production to compete with established producers in Asia.
On the ground, however, this and similar projects face hurdles such as a shortage of skilled workers and an at-times Byzantine bureaucracy. High energy prices are one of the reasons Germany's economy has stagnated since the end of last year and is expected to shrink this year.
The issues raise questions about Europe's capacity to match the Biden administration's manufacturing incentives offered through the Inflation Reduction Act and the $53 billion Chips Act. For Germany, which derives a bigger part of its gross domestic product from manufacturing than other countries on the Continent, expanding semiconductor production is essential to catching up technologically and increasing economic resilience.
To staff its factory in Magdeburg, Intel intends to send local trainees to a factory it operates in Ireland for the final year of their three-year apprenticeship program. Intel and local officials said there was no suitable local alternative in Magdeburg, a city of 240,000 people that lost a large part of its industrial base after German reunification in the 1990s.
The company's need for cheaper electricity has prompted a national conversation on industrial-power subsidies that has split German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's governing coalition. The required upgrades to schools, housing and transportation infrastructure to accommodate the new workers and their families could cost an additional €1 billion and forever change the character of this former manufacturing town.
Germany's big carmakers had to idle production a few years ago because of a sudden shortage of semiconductors, highlighting the industry's reliance on U.S. and Asian suppliers. Since then, politicians and industry executives have vowed to make manufacturers more resilient by reducing their dependence on foreign suppliers. Berlin is also subsidizing a factory that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. plans to build near Dresden.
The incentives have been controversial. Associations representing Germany's midsize businesses complained about so much money going to U.S.-based Intel, as did rival chip maker GlobalFoundries.
Economist Reint Gropp said subsidizing factories would only move problems farther down the supply chain. The public spending, he said, doesn't address the region's structural economic weaknesses.
“The labor market is tight, and this is going to make it tighter," said Gropp, president of a research institute in nearby Halle.
Intel has already opened an office and begun a charm offensive in Magdeburg. Company officials have hosted booths at community festivals and held discussions with local government and civic officials. A branded jersey even set off speculation that the company might sponsor the local soccer club.
Bernd Holthaus, the Intel executive in charge of hiring for the plant, was part of the committee that selected Magdeburg. The company chose the city predominantly because it has 1,100 hectares, or roughly 2,700 acres, available, he said, and can be supplied by road and river.
An initial class of 20 apprentices is to begin a training program next August, with a hope to eventually increase that number 10-fold, according to Stefanie Klemmt, a chamber-of-commerce official who oversees vocational training in Magdeburg. The company had initially planned to start production in 2027.
Nearby, Otto von Guericke University is starting a degree program in advanced semiconductor nanotechnologies this year and plans to hire several dedicated professors, President Jens Strackeljan said.
Strackeljan added that he had drawn up plans to build a clean room—a lab where students can practice chip production—for about €30 million, but might discard those plans in favor of a bigger facility that the company suggested. Strackeljan said he wasn't certain how he would be able to secure the additional funding required.
Alexander May, 34 years old, studied systems engineering and is one of the two students now training to be a semiconductor technician at the university. He grew up in Magdeburg and said Intel's arrival made him optimistic about staying in the city.
Other residents aren't excited about the new plant. Angela Stephan, a retired anesthesiologist, is concerned the factory would displace nearby farms, bring more traffic and disrupt the water supply.
“Intel is too big for us," she said.
Magdeburg feels noticeably less modern than larger German cities such as Berlin and Munich. Fewer people here speak English. The historic restaurant in the heart of downtown doesn't accept credit-card payments for its signature dish, the Magdeburger Bötel, a serving of pork knuckle with sauerkraut, puréed peas and potatoes.
On a recent Monday, a group of about 20 people marched by the restaurant as part of a weekly general demonstration, carrying “Germany Stand Up!" signs and singing a nationalist song set to the tune of the Soviet national anthem. Roughly 2,000 people listened to speakers from the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany party, or AfD, during a Sept. 16 protest against the federal government.
The nationalist party had 29% approval in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, according to a June poll by research group Insa, making it the second most popular party—just 2 percentage points behind the conservative Christian Democrats, or CDU.
Potential hostility in the region toward foreigners could pose a problem for Intel. Holthaus estimated that 30% to 40% of the company's new workforce would come from outside Germany.
The cost of electricity has been a concern for executives at Intel, where similar facilities use about 300 million kilowatt-hours of electricity every quarter. The average electricity cost for large-scale users in Germany was 19 cents a kilowatt-hour in the second half of 2022—more than 40% higher than in France and Poland, according to EU data.
Deputy Mayor Sandra Yvonne Stieger has been working for two years to bring the plant to Magdeburg. She said Saxony-Anhalt, the state where the city is located, has lots of renewable-energy generation. State officials have said they might help the company build a dedicated wind farm, but Stieger said there are no concrete plans for such a facility.
Other regions of eastern Germany have had some success in attracting U.S. high-tech manufacturers. In Grünheide, an area east of Berlin, Tesla opened its first European factory last year. Local officials used fast-track legislation to help the automaker, and Tesla gambled by starting construction before final environmental approvals were granted. The facility now produces 5,000 vehicles a week. Still, Tesla paused expanding battery production at the site last year because of rising electricity costs.
The government has discussed subsidizing the cost of electricity for crucial industrial users but so far hasn't adopted the plan. Critics have dubbed it “Intel's law," but the company hasn't taken a position.
Stieger said upgrades to the region's infrastructure, from sewers to power lines, would benefit everyone, not just Intel.
“If we want to have production back in Germany, we have to pay for it," she said. “Maybe it's not cheap, but in the long-term, it's necessary."
