Authorities Order Safety Audit Of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway After Rolls Royce-Fuel Tanker Collision Published 11 minutes ago

Posted By: Ramesh Sharma Posted On: Aug 30, 2023

We hear about road accidents every day. Recently, a Rolls Royce met with an accident in Nuh, Haryana. In the accident, the vehicle collided with a fuel tanker standing on the road and two people died on the spot. The accident happened on the access control highway. Such accidents happen on expressways every day. This is the reason that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to conduct a safety audit to deal with them on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. NHAI has sought the help of IIT for this. Let's take a look.

According to reports, the IIT team will conduct a survey and submit the report to NHAI. Based on this, NHAI will make the necessary changes. Structural design, entry and exit, slip roads, stoppage points and other infrastructure will be examined in the audit. This will help increase the security of the people. At present, only the first phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been opened to the common people. This part of 246 km goes from Sohna, near Gurugram, to Dausa in Rajasthan.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was inaugurated on February 15 this year. Since then, 150 accidents have happened on this route. As the movement of people on this road increases, the number of accidents also increases. In the initial days, 12,000 vehicles used to travel on this route every day; now their number has increased to 28,000. NHAI officials said that there are 1-2 accidents every day on the expressway, most of which are not fatal.

Reports suggest that for several kilometres on the expressway, only a flat road goes on. It is quite monotonous, due to which people start feeling sleepy and this causes accidents. NHAI is planning to install rumble strips in many places. The car vibrates when vehicles pass over it and helps keep the drivers awake.

In the recent Rolls-Royce accident, a victim named Vikas Malu, luckily survived with some serious injuries, while two passengers, who were in the oil tanker, lost their lives on the spot.

The reports suggest that when the vehicle collided with the tanker on the highway, the luxury car's speed was said to be around 230 kilometres per hour. As soon as the vehicle met the accident it caught fire in no time, after which the injured were taken out and shifted to a hospital in Gurgaon.

New Delhi: The National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML), under the aegis of National Highways Authority of India has signed an agreement to develop a multi-modal logistics park (MMLP) in Bengaluru under public-private partnership at an estimated cost of ₹1,770 crore.

The MMLP will be spread across 400 acre at Muddelinganahalli in Bengaluru rural. The project is poised to become the first and largest MMLP ever implemented in the country under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.

To facilitate seamless logistics movement, the site is strategically located adjacent to the upcoming Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) industrial area on its east, abutting NH (national highway) 648, Dabbaspet to Hosur, the Satellite Town Ring Road on the north, and Bengaluru-Hubli-Mumbai rail line on its south. Bengaluru MMLP is located at a distance of 58 km from Bengaluru Airport and 48 km from Bengaluru city railway station.

The MMLP will be developed in three phases. The first phase is expected to be completed in two years. The logistics park will cater to about 30 million metric tonne (MMT) cargo by the end of concession period of 45 years and will give huge boost to industrial zones in the catchment region such as Bengaluru and Tumkur.

A government SPV has been incorporated between National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML), Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) and KIADB.

Developing MMLPs is a key initiative of the Indian government to improve the country's freight logistics sector by enabling efficient inter-modal freight movement to lower overall freight costs and time, provide efficient warehousing, improve tracking and traceability of consignments thereby enhancing the efficiency of the Indian logistics sector.

Reality of Bharat Jodo

Congress leader also commented on the name of Narottam Mishra and said the minister is working against the principles of his name (Mint/Twitter)

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar engaged in a war of words with Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra ahead of the state legislative assembly polls later this year, NDTV reported on Monday. Kanhaiya Kumar said that the home minister is more interested in the clothes of a actor when Madhya Pradesh records “maximum atrocities" against women and tribals.

The jibe comes as in December, Narottam Mishra expressed his disapproval over the clothes actress Deepika Padukone is wearing in the blockbuster film ‘Pathaan'. The minister asked the filmmakers to rectify the same and use some other costumes.

"Instead of zeroing in on what Deepika Padukone is wearing in a film, you (Mr. Mishra) should be concerned about what is happening to women, tribals, and Dalits in MP," Kanhaiya Kumar said, according to the NDTV report.

Congress leader also commented on the name of Narottam Mishra and said the minister is working against the principles of his name which means “best among men."

Reality of Bharat Jodo

Narottam Mishra was quick to respond to the jibe and said Kanhaiya Kumar's presence in the state shows the reality of “Bharat Jodo."

“Jinki nafrat hai pehchan, Congress khulwa rahi hai unse mohabbat ki dukan," (The ones who have an identity of hatred, the Congress is asking them to open shops of love), Narottam Mishra said in a video posted on his Twitter handle.

The home minister added that the three people are together one of the them calls Zakir Naik ambassador of peace and “Laden ji" to Osama Bin Laden, hinting at some past remarks by Congress leader Digvijay Singh. He added that one was involved in the 1984 Sikh riots and the third one raised slogans of “Bharat tere tukde honge inshallah, inshallah."

Kanhaiya Kumar targeted Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and equated him with ‘Kans Mama,' and said that it was Kanhaiya who eliminated the king of Mathura.
