Jawan Box Office collection Day 5 numbers are in. Shah Rukh Khan’s new movie is proving to be a blockbuster hit. Within just five days of its release, the film has amassed an impressive ₹316.16 crore in India, as per the net collection reports.

The film kicked off with a bang on its first day, earning ₹75 crore. Although the collections experienced a dip on the second day, coming in at ₹53.23 crore, the weekend proved to be extraordinarily successful. The film netted ₹77.83 crore on its third day and peaked at ₹80.1 crore on the first Sunday. Early estimates suggest that the film has pulled in ₹30 crore on its first Monday.

Despite the weekday drop, Jawan shows no signs of slowing down. According to data regarding Jawan Day 6 advance booking, the film has already earned ₹6.19 crore, as per early estimates. A total of 265,522 tickets have been sold for 18,315 shows, indicating a strong and sustained interest in the film.

The numbers offer a telling story of the film's reception and its potential for a long and prosperous run at the box office. The initial five days have set a high benchmark, not just for Jawan but for the industry as a whole. The sixth day's advance bookings seem to reaffirm the film's appeal, and it remains to be seen how the rest of the week unfolds.

Political convenience determines…

Posted By: Pawan George Posted On: Sep 27, 2023
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar speaks at the General Debate of the 78th session of United Nations General Assembly (PTI)

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has taken a veiled attack on Canada at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) amid India's row with the country over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, saying “political convenience determines responses to terrorism, extremism, and violence". Jaishankar's attack on Canada comes following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of the Khalistani separatist in June.

“Nor must we countenance that political convenience determines responses to terrorism, extremism and violence. Similarly, respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs cannot be exercises in cherry-picking. When reality departs from rhetoric, we must have the courage to call it out," Jaishankar said at his address at UNGA.

Jaishankar also spoke about the G20 Summit which was conducted under India's presidency, the Chandrayaan-3 mission and the Women's Reservation Bill which was passed in both Houses of Parliament.

On India's Moon mission, Jaishankar said, “India has entered the 'Amrit Kaal'...The world saw a glimpse of what is to come when our Chandrayaan-3 landed on the Moon. Today, our message to the world is in digitally enabled governance and delivery in the widening ambit of amenities and services and rapidly growing infra and in our energetic start-up structure.."

Jaishankar greeted UNGA with a ‘namaste from Bharat'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was identified as the leader representing 'Bharat' at the G20 Summit he hosted earlier this month. The government used 'Bharat', a name used in the Constitution for the country along with India, in several official G20 documents.

Poland is exploring legal and diplomatic options to seek the extradition of Yaroslav Hunka, a 98-year-old Nazi war veteran, who was honoured in the Canadian Parliament last week, as per a statement issued by Polish minister Przemysław Czarnek.

“In view of the scandalous events in the Canadian Parliament, which involved honouring, in the presence of President Zelenskyy, a member of the criminal Nazi SS Galizien formation, I have taken steps towards the possible extradition of this man to Poland," Czarnek stated in a post on social media platform X.

Hunka, a Ukrainian-Canadian, was invited to the Canadian House of Commons on September 22, in the presence of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and given a standing ovation. The Speaker of the House, Anthony Rota, went on to describe him as a “war hero".

After it was pointed out by critics that Hunka was a member of Waffen-SS Galicia Division, which comprised of Ukrainian Vounteers who fought for Nazi Germany's armed forces against Soviet Union in World War-II, the Canadian government switched into damage control mode.

Rota issued an apology on September 25, saying that he was not aware about Hunka's associated with the Nazi forces. "I have subsequently become aware of more information which causes me to regret my decision to do so."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed regret, noting that "this is something that is deeply embarrassing to the Parliament of Canada and by extension to all Canadians."

"It's extremely upsetting that this happened. The Speaker has acknowledged his mistake and has apologised," Trudeau added. His office also denied the reports which claimed that a private meeting took place between him and Hunka.

Byju's has experienced a series of business setbacks, including its auditor and board members quitting(Shutterstock)

Indian education firm Byju's plans to cut around 5,500 jobs to decrease costs amid a restructuring of its business, the Economic Times reported on Tuesday.

Arjun Mohan, who took over as the chief executive of the company's India business, has briefed senior executives that he will be merging several business verticals as part of the changes, which are expected to be rolled out later this week or early next week, the newspaper said.

ALSO READ: Byju's yet to pay dues worth crores for data management tools, loses servicesThe job cuts are being implemented only at Byju's parent, Think & Learn, and are not linked to any of its subsidiaries, the report said, adding that a significant number of roles to be made redundant would constitute senior positions at the firm.

"They (Byju's) want to bring more students to offline centres and that's the main way the new management has identified to run operations that can sustain over a period of time," ET said, citing a person aware of the discussions.

Byju's did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The firm, valued at $22 billion last year, has experienced a series of business setbacks, including its auditor and board members quitting. In the last few months, it has also been negotiating the repayment of a $1.2 billion loan.

Vedanta hits over 1-year low after Moody's downgrades parent

Shares of Indian conglomerate Vedanta fell to their lowest in over a year on Wednesday after Moody's Investors Service downgraded parent Vedanta Resources' senior unsecured bonds, citing a high risk of debt restructuring in the coming months.

The rating agency also raised concerns about the ability of Vedanta Resources' operating subsidiaries to generate cash flow in a "softening commodity price environment."

Shares of the metals-to-oil group fell as much as 6.3% to their lowest level since July 6, 2022 before paring losses to trade 4.8% down as of 10:00 a.m. IST.

Moody's downgraded Vedanta Resources' unsecured bonds to Caa3 from Caa2, and the corporate family rating of the billionaire Anil Agarwal-owned company to Caa2 from Caa1 while maintaining a negative outlook.

Vedanta was the top loser on the Nifty 100 index , which was down 0.26%.

The stock is on track to decline for the sixth consecutive session - its longest losing streak since late February - if the trend holds through the day.
